School History
Shire Oak C of E Voluntary Controlled Primary School opened in September 2006 following the successful amalgamation of Headingley Primary School and St Michael's C of E Aided Primary School.
The need to amalgamate became clear after discussions with Education Leeds and other schools in the Headingley area took place. There were not enough children living in the area to sustain the number of schools in the locality so closures or amalgamations were necessary.
It was at this point that the Headingley and St Michael's Governors took the step to begin working closely together in order that the best provision for the children of Headingley could be secured.
The process of amalgamation was deemed one of the most successful in the area since amalgamations had begun and as such we were able to open with both former schools' communities really supporting the school.
The school was officially opened on September 30th 2006 and was attended by Leeds MP Greg Mulholland and was officially opened by Sam Robinson, a pupil in year 2. He was selected though a draw of all children that took place at the beginning of term. The opening celebrations were a great success.
Now in our third year, we have gone from strength to strength, building on and embedding relationships within the school community, improving the physical nature of the school and making Shire Oak a great place to learn.
