Shire Oak C of E Primary School

Acorn Shire Oak School Council 2008 2009

Pupil voice is very important at Shire Oak. In order for all of our pupils to feel involved in school life and have a say in what happens at their school, we provide a number of regular opportunities for pupils to share their ideas, talk about what they feel our school excels in and suggest ways in which we can make it even better.

Shire Oak has a very active School Council group. At the beginning of each year, each class votes for a boy and a girl that they would like to represent them at School Council meetings. These School Council members have a very important role in taking their class' views, shared in half termly Class Council, and putting them across in our half termly School Council meetings.

The whole school vote for the vice chair each year in Year 5. This boy or girl then becomes chair in Year 6.

Recent School Council Activities:

  • Chair and Vice-Chair Training at Leeds Metropolitan University.
  • Vice Chair Elections.
  • Budget Meeting to discuss how they wish to spend their allocated budget to improve their environment.
  • Meeting with OfSTED inspectors.
  • Meeting with SIAS inspectors. (Church School Inspector)
