Helping your children to learn at home

Your child's teacher(s) will always be happy to talk to you about things that you can do at home that will help your child's learning. Look out for the half termly homework leaflets that have information about both the long project and short tasks that have been set. (Years 1-6). For children with special educational needs the SENCo (Sara Mitchell) is also happy to meet with parents and explore ways that their children's learning can be supported at home.

Here are some further links that offer ideas on how to help:

Mathletics (login details available from the class teacher if they have been mislaid)

Spellodrome (login details available from the class teacher if they have been mislaid)

Progression in mental calculation skills (this shows how children's skills in mental maths are developed, step by step in KS2)

Progression in written calculation skills (this shows how children start to record their maths and learn different methods until they learn the standard written methods. This is particularly useful when children come home and talk about things like 'chunking ' that are different from when parents went to school!)

We have just introduced a Maths Passport scheme at school which encourages children to work at home and school to practise the mental maths facts and skills that they need to progress well. Each child from Year 1 has taken home the targets they need to work on to have their passport stamped and move on to the next continent. Here are some explanations of the targets.

In the first half term Jess Miller held a meeting for parents of Reception children to explain how we can work together to help the children learn to be good readers.
